Music is one of those sensory experiences that can get you in the mood. Songs can take you back to a memorable sexual escapade. Or maybe you get goose bumps/make orgasm noises when a certain tune comes on the radio. Here we share our Editor’s favourites.
Editor’s Choice: Top 7 Sexiest Songs Of All Time
1. Glory Box by Portishead (1994)
Desperate yet strong, seductive yet heart wrenching, this hit single off their debut album Dummy, saw the genre-pioneering group win the coveted UK Mercury Prize in 1995.
2. Flesh War by Total Control (2014)
Total Control are one of Australia’s best contemporary bands. And Flesh War, the first single off their second album, is one of their best songs. The driving rhythm, spine-tingling keyboard and deep, monotone vocals make this song a pleasure to bone to, think about boning to and to reminisce about previous bones.
3. Angel by Massive Attack (1998)
A deep, throbbing beat that keeps climbing, juxtaposed with soft, delicate vocals and wall of sound guitars, makes this song a banger…if you know what I mean.
4. Close Up by Peaches featuring Kim Gordon (2015)
Kim Gordon from Sonic Youth’s breathy, spoken word vocals cut with the strong, hectic lyrics of Peaches, a 47 year old female musical boss, make this song a future feminist classic. Lyrics like “Diminish the pillage, a privilege to visit my village, are you finished? Saw shrinkage, your seeds aren’t coins in my mintage.” Warning – the video features a quick dirty sanchez in case you’re not into that. It’s hilarious, crazy and most definitely brilliant.
5. Sexual Healing by Marvin Gaye (1982)
Slow, sweet and funky, Sexual Healing remains a timeless, old school classic to this day. Listening to it now, it seems quite tame compared to the explicit content you can hear these days. That’s it’s charm. Still, with verses such as, “Come take control, just grab a hold, Of my body and mind, soon we’ll be making it honey, I’ll be feeling fine, You’re my medicine, open up and let me in, Darling, you’re so great, I can’t wait for you to operate,” this tune that will make you want some sexy time.
6. Je t’aime… moi non plus by Serge Gainsbourg (1969)
Described as an “anti-fuck” song by Gainsbourg himself, the French title translates to ‘I Love You…Me Neither.” The best/worst part of this song is the climactic whispering of Jane Birkin, one of the greatest babes to have walked the earth. In the video, Serge Gainsbourg looks pretty goofy in comparison. Either way, it’s a great song and reached #1 across Europe despite being banned in several countries.
7. A Girl Like You – Edwyn Collins (1994)
Hailing from Scotland, Edwyn Collins’ pop hit gets massive props for admitting he performed cunnilingus for so long his, “hands are bleeding and my knees are raw.” What’s not to love about that?
