The 9th annual Sydney Underground Film Festival (SUFF) starts on September 17, aka this Thursday! Over four days, over 50 sessions will be presented across 5 cinemas set up within Marrickville’s Factory Theatre, which is hosting the SUFF until closing night on Sunday.
Over 100 films will be screened, as well as a 2-day filmmaking masterclass and workshop program on the last two days of the festival – your opportunity to learn from and speak with successful independent filmmakers and producers.
The SUFF opens with Argentinean director Gaspar Noé’s latest creation Love – a controversial and sexually explicit film that caused a stir at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. A ticket to Love in 3D on opening night gives you access to live performances, free pizza from Crust Dulwich Hill, a taste of wine from Kooks Winery and the film festival’s own beer Underground Ale – made in collaboration with Young Henrys Brewery.
In addition to the new, the festival is showing some of the true cinematic cult classics. Russ Meyer’s proto-feminist sexploitation Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! turns 50 this year, and will be on the big screen in all its action-packed glory. Also showing this week is Harmony Korine (Spring Breakers) and Larry Clark’s 1995 Kids; the brutal tale of Telly, a HIV positive New York youth with a penchant for deflowering virgins.
Each film is strictly adults only, with a few M15+ exceptions, which you can find on the official SUFF website, as well as session times and ticket prices.
